Tanunda Disability Unit

Image of Tanunda Disability UnitThe Tanunda Unit is a purpose-built facility for students with severe and multiple physical disabilities and / or intellectual disabilities.

The Tanunda Unit is an integral part of the Tanunda Primary School community. Students are able to participate in a range of a negotiated inclusion programs, tailored to their individual interests and needs. Students from mainstream classes are invited into the Unit 'Safe Play' area during Recess and Lunch.

In addition to this integration into the primary school community, students participate in communityImage of Tanunda Disability Unit-based activities including swimming at the Tanunda Recreation Centre.

The Unit was built as a result of the dedicated efforts
of parents of students with disabilities. For many years there was no appropriate learning facilities for children
in the Barossa. To be eligible for consideration to be placed at the Tanunda Unit, the student must live in the local region district and meet a range of criteria including Guidance Officer recommendation for Special Placement.

The Unit has a Coordinator, teachers and SSO support staff, the number of which varies according to student enrolment and specific needs.
